What is Synchronised swimming?

Think about someone performing a gymnastic routine partly underwater, a 600 metre swim including the figures, leaps and spins of an ice skater, the power and strength of the waterpolo player, along with the flair and musical expression of a dancer. All this whilst keeping in time with seven others along with the music, all moving in perfect coordination.

Is it a recognised sport?

Yes, it is an Olympic sport and has been since 1984. All of the Grades taken at Rykneld Synchro Club conform to the standards established by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).

Who can take part?

Anyone is welcome to join us for a free taster session. All we ask is that you can swim 100 metres without difficulty and are competent in at least two strokes - we'll teach you the rest.

What about special equipment?

A swimming costume, goggles, swimming cap and nose clip (you can purchase nose clips from the club).

How often do we train?

Rykneld synchro trains twice a week in water and once a week on land. Water sessions are held on Tuesdays 8:00pm till 10:00pm (younger members leave around 9:00 - 9:30), Saturdays 5:00pm till 7:00pm and land sessions with our gymnastic coach Colin on Thursdays 6pm till 6:45pm.

Do I have to attend every session?

No, although obviously the more often you attend the better you will be.

What about finance?

We pay a monthly subscription of £16 per month and an annual subscription of £28. Our attendance at competitions relies on fundraising and donations.

POTENTIAL SPONSORS are always welcome.
